In Ibn Taimiyah (661-728 A.H.) we see a devout doctor of religion versed in all categories of philosophy and dialectics, a man of vast learning acquainted with the original Scriptures of many religions and their subsequent amendments and accretions, not least Christianity and Judaism as also with the heretical and mystical teachings of sects which claimed to belong to the fold of Islam. Here was a man who had learned the lesson of unalloyed Tawhid directly from the Qur’an and the Sunnah and was capable of rejecting all those practices which ran counter to the true concept of the Oneness of God. A theologian, a Traditionist and legist combined, he was adept when it came to the Arabic language and the secular sciences. With an eidetic memory, he could argue across a vast range of subject matter, embarrassing his adversaries with his huge storehouse of learning. In this short but succinct volume, more than a cursory glimpse of the full range of Ibn Taimiyah’s achievements are documented, Blended with a colourful and insightful biography, from his early childhood to his death 67 years later in prison, Sayyed Abul Hasan ‘Ali Nadwi’s account of Shaikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taimiyah leaves one thirsting for more.

Ibn Taymiyyah’s Essay on Servitude
“An enlightening book written by one of the most famous scholars of Islaam on the important subject of servitude. In this book, Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyah defines the concept of worship in Islaam and explains that to be a true “slave of Allaah” is a status of both virtue and nobility. The author proves that the title “slave of Allaah” is one of great honor which Allaah bestowed upon the best of creation, Muhammad (pbuh). While elaborating on the issue of servitude, the author highlights the prevalent traps which people fall into, when becoming enslaved by, or allowing their hearts to become attached to worldly objects. The emphasis is on servitude to Allaah which is adorned with the true love we hold for Him in our hearts — a matter of central importance for every Muslim.

Early Sources For Prophet Muhammad’s Biography (H/B)
In ‘Early Sources for Prophet Muhammad’s Biography’, Dr. Muhammad Saeed Mitwally aims to prove that applying Western methods of critical analysis to the available Muslim sources can take us back to early, reliable information about the Prophet (sa).
Early Western biographies of the Prophet of Islam (sa) were largely based upon the Qur’an, as well as upon the late Muslim sources dating from the sixteenth century. After the publication of Goldziher’s Muhammedanische Studien in 1890, the reliability of Muslim sources became controversial. This stance was intensified by the publication of Schacht’s The Origins of Muhammadan Jurisprudence, in which he claimed that none of the Hadith literature is authentic. In this book, Dr. Muhammad Saeed Mitwally successfully challenges some of the problems raised by the pessimistic attitude.
Students of Hadith will find this study thought-provoking and informative.

Dr. Sallabi’s meticulous research has effectively filled that gap in our knowledge. His work is more than just biography, as the reader will see.
Volume One of Salah ad-Deer al-Ayubi sets the stage for the advent of the Ayubids as Dr. Sallabi describes vividly (and with his characteristic candour) the geopolitical scene upon which the first Crusades were acted out and their effects on the Muslim world in the twelfth century CE. The author discusses the events and introduces the many interesting personalities that played important parts in this real-life drama.
Volume Two of Salah ad-Deen al-Ayubi discusses the establishment of the Ayubid state, mentioning the origins of Salah ad-Deen’s family, his birth and childhood; Dr. Sallabi describes the character and ethics of Salah ad-Deen: how he put an end to the Fatimid opposition and reorganised administrative affairs in Egypt; his efforts to revive the Sunnah in Egypt; his jihad against the Crusaders; his use of his literary skills in the service of Islam; and his keenness to unite the Muslim world. Theauthor discusses the events and introduces the many other interesting personalities that played important parts in this crucial period in world history.
Volume Three of Salah ad-Deen al-Ayubi discusses the influencing factors and the ramifications of three crucial events in which Salah ad-Deen played the leading role. Dr. Sallabi also describes the many other interesting personalities that played important parts in this turbulent period in world history. In the words of Dr. Sallabi, “The beauty of Islam became apparent to westerners from the conduct of Salk ad-Deen in peace and in war, his respect for freedom of opinion and belief, and his adherence to lofty, humane values and the sublime teachings of Islam.”
This three-volume work has been made more useful to the reader in this English edition through the addition of a map, a timeline, a list of the dynasties of the period, and a comprehensive Glossary.

Hadith: Muhammad’s Legacy in the Medieval and Modern World (2nd Edition)
Contrary to popular opinion, the bulk of Islamic law does not come from the Quran but from hadith, first-hand reports of the Prophet Muhammad’s words and deeds, passed from generation to generation. However, with varying accounts often only committed to paper a century after the death of Muhammad, Islamic scholars, past and present, have been faced with complex questions of historical authenticity. In this wide-ranging introduction, Jonathan A. C. Brown explores the collection and criticism of hadith, and the controversy surrounding its role in modern Islam. This edition, revised and updated with additional case studies and attention to the very latest scholarship, also features a new chapter on how hadiths have been used politically, both historically and in the Arab Spring and its aftermath. Informative and accessible, it is perfectly suited to students, scholars and general readers interested in this critical element of Islam.
