Khalid bin Al-Waleed was one of the greatest generals in history, and one of the greatest heroes of Islam. The original title of the book, “The Sword of Allah: Khalid bin Al-Waleed, His Life and Campaigns” was written by the late Lieutenant-General A.I. Akram of the Pakistan Army, in October 1969. The author learnt Arabic in order to draw on the earliest historical sources and he visited every one of Khalid’s battlefields in order to draw analyses from the viewpoint of military strategy, including reconciling conflicting historians’ accounts. The book was originally published by the Army Education Press, Rawalpindi, Pakistan and printed by Feroze Sons Publishers in Lahore, Pakistan. The excellence of the book was such that it has been translated from English into Arabic and is currently sold in bookshops throughout the Arab World.

When I began writing the books “Golden Titles”, I felt that the contemporary Muslim Desperately needs serenity of the heart and the only way one can achieve this is through emulation of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions. Following their foosteps will open the gates of success, prosperity and reverence as it did to those companions who came from a modest social background.
My objective in writing, such books on the Prophet’s companions his revered wives, compilers of hadiths and great martyrs is to provide the leader and insight into their way of living to enlighten his or her heart and allow a reform to enter their lives. These companions were blessed with the Prophet’s association and occupy the highest ranks amongst human beings – after the Prophets – as a result of their righteousness.
This book is targeted for the young generation studying in schoolas, colleges and universities. I earnestly desire that the readers benefit from this book by idealizing these heroes of Islam.

Ibn Ḥibbān (d. 354 AH) stated concerning this classical work:
“I clarify in this book that which will beautify for the wise person the practice of praiseworthy characteristics and make the practice of reprehensible characteristics seem ugly while intending to refrain and abstain from persistently increasing in these bad qualities, to lighten the load for the bearer and enlighten the ear of the listener. And because of the various narrations and verses of poetry that will be mentioned in this book, the one who strives to study each chapter in depth will wish that they would never end. And whoever refuses to reach completeness and success is, in reality, accepting inadequacy. Allāh is the Granter of success and the Guider to integrity. And I ask Him for rectification of the soul and a pardon from punishment of sins. Indeed, He is the Most Generous, Noble, Compassionate, and Merciful.”
